General

  1. Why is SprayLog no longer free?

SprayLog and Spray Plan Manager as computer programs require ongoing maintenance and support. The cost of this activity has historically been supplied by funding from research programmes, allowing us to offer these tools for free. Unfortunately funding for the science programme that supported development and maintenance of SprayLog and Spray Plan Manager has come to an end and therefore Plant & Food Research can no longer offer these as free applications. To continue being able to provide and support these products there will be an annual subscription fee. This subscription will provide you with access to a SprayManager suite of the three most popular tools : SprayLog, Spray Plan Manager and Product Lookup Online. For more information visit the www.spraymanager.co.nz website.

Using SprayLog

  1. How do I save my work after entering sprays into the diary?

There is no need for you to save before closing the SprayLog as everything is automatically saved while you are using the software.

If you do wish to manually save your work, you can do so at any time by selecting from the top menu File, then Save.

  2. How do I add new products, varieties or growth stages into the software?

Double click on the video to view full screen.

You are not able to add new products, varieties or growth stages in to the software yourself, but you can request that any missing entries be added. First make sure you have the most up-to-date database files, to do this from the top menu of SprayLog select Update.

NOTE: Once the update is complete, you will need to restart SprayLog to apply it.

If the entry is still missing from the list, send an email to Emailsupport@spraylog.co.nz with as much information about what you would like added. Once it has been added, you will be notified and requested to update your database files.

  3. How do I export my diary to Microsoft® Excel?

In SprayLog, from the top menu select Edit > Copy Sprays > Copy from Selected Blocks. Choose which blocks to copy and click OK. This will copy the block and diary information to your clipboard, you can then paste the data into Excel or many other software applications.

To paste the data into Excel, open Excel and from the top menu select Edit, then Paste.

  4. How do I export my diary to PDF?

Double click on the video to view full screen.

Open SprayLog and select the block you want to work with. From the top menu select Reports > Current Block Report, this will open the Output Options window. To save the report as a PDF file:

    3. Click on the save (disk) button to help you specify a name and location for the file
    4. Click the OK button.

  5. How do I print my diary?

    1. Select the 'Printer' option
    2. Click the OK button.

Emailing Information

  1. How do I email my diary from SprayLog?

Spraylog uses your computers default email application (eg. Outlook, Thunderbird) to attach the required files to an email for you. If you have not setup your default email application or you use web-based email you will need to manually attach the files to an email. (see the next FAQ item)

    1. From the top menu of SprayLog select Email.
    2. Select the blocks you wish to include in the email and click the OK button.
    3. Click Yes or No if this is your final diary. (this will not affect your diary, just add some text to the email)
    4. A new email message should appear with the files attached, ready to be sent.

  2. The SprayLog email system does not work for me, how do I email my diary?

If the email process in SprayLog is not working for you, you can manually attach the required files to an email yourself.

    1. Open your email application and create a new message
    2. Click the button to attach a file, and browse to the SprayLog install folder (eg. c:/SprayLog 2010/)
    3. The files you will need to attach are:
      • block.xml
      • blockphen.xml
      • diary.xml
      • owner.xml
      • pestdise.xml
    4. You can optionally export your spray diary to PDF using SprayLog, save the file and then attach it to this email as well.
    5. Once all files are attached you can continue to specify a recipient, subject and message then send it.

SprayLog Between Seasons

  1. How do I use SprayLog for different seasons?

The best way to use SprayLog between seasons is to run a new version of the software for each season. Each year we release a new version of SprayLog with the year incorporated in the name (eg. SprayLog 2006). Once the new version of the software is available, download and install it, then use it for the current seasons spray information.

You can still go back and see all of your old spray diary information from previous seasons by using the software from that seasons folder. This means that rather than overwriting your data each season, you'll have each version of SprayLog installed a long side one another.

  2. How do I copy over my block, owner or product list information from last year?

Double click on the video to view full screen.

When you install the next version/season of SprayLog, your information from the previous version/season should be copied across for you - In some cases this does not happen and you will need to follow these instructions to do it manually.

WARNING: If you do not follow these instructions correctly you may overwrite your diaries! We strongly recommend you take a copy of the files before you follow these procedures

    1. From the windows start menu, select 'Run' and type in the word 'explorer' (without the quotes) this will launch Windows Explorer.
    2. On the left hand column of Windows Explorer click on 'My Computer', then the (C:) drive, then last seasons SprayLog folder (eg. SprayLog 2009) once so that it is highlighted. A list of files should appear in the right hand column.
NOTE: the path to where SprayLog is installed on your computer might be different to the example shown here.
    3. Hold down the 'Ctrl' key on your keyboard and on the right hand column click once on each of the following files so that they are highlighted.
      • Block.xml
      • Growlist.xml
      • Owner.xml
    4. From the menu at the top of the window click Edit, then Copy.
    5. In the left hand column, click on this seasons SprayLog folder (eg. SprayLog 2010) once so that it is highlighted, from the menu at the top of the window click Edit, then Paste.
    6. A screen will pop up asking you if you wish to overwrite the existing file. Confirm that it is the correct file and click Yes.
Next time you open this seasons SprayLog the block, owner and product list you just copied across should now be available.

Error Messages

  1. Unable to connect to the SprayLog server.

When SprayLog opens it tries to check if there is a newer version available, this is done over the internet but there are many things that can block it from doing this. The main reason is some security software installed on your computer like McAfee, Norton 360, Bit-Defender, etc, is preventing SprayLog from accessing the internet.

You can try to configure your security software to allow SprayLog access to the internet,

or you can turn this 'check for new version' feature off from the options menu in SprayLog 2010.

This is not a problem and SprayLog will work fine either way.
